An Indiana woman was found dead after ordering a ride from a rideshare service, police say, and now her driver is accused of killing her.

Police arrested 29-year-old Francisco Valadez in connection to the killing of Indianapolis woman Chanti Dixon , the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said in a Sept. 10 news release. Valadez faces a murder charge.

Dixon, 30, was reported missing shortly before her body was discovered on the city’s southeast side on Sept. 9, police said. She had been shot and her body dumped in a wooded area.

Detectives searched the area, talking with possible witnesses and collecting surveillance video, police said.

Investigators also learned that Dixon used a rideshare app prior to her disappearance and that led them to her driver, Valadez, WXIN reported.

“Detectives located Valadez and after gathering more information found him to be the suspect in the homicide of Ms. Dixon,” police said. “Upon even further investigation, Valadez was arrested for murder.”

Police did not say what may have motivated the killing.

“This is just disgusting all around and it did not have to happen. This is a family that’s been ripped apart,” Chief Chris Bailey said at a news briefing, WXIN reported. “This woman is gone from the world unnecessarily by an evil act, and I’m glad that we were able to find this individual as quickly as we did so that he didn’t have an opportunity to perpetuate violence further in our community.”

Dixon was a fun-loving friend and a dedicated mother , friend Sade Batey told WISH.

“She was goofy, she was happy, always laughing, always caring” but was “a mom before anything,” Batey said. “ ... I’m still in disbelief, but I love you, girl, and forever will.”
