Rare Ohio tornado left this cat without a home. Now, Aunt Meg needs a new beginning

A cat who was named after a beloved character from one of the biggest blockbusters of the 1990s needs help finding a new home after tragedy struck her former one, an Ohio shelter said.

Aunt Meg, as she’s lovingly been dubbed after the 1996 hit movie “Twister,” lost her home when nature touched her life and has been passed over at the shelter, the Jefferson County Humane Society and Animal Shelter in Wintersville said in a Facebook post.

“Aunt Meg’s story is one of quiet heartbreak,” the shelter said in a Sept. 10 post.

“At just 4 years old, she lost everything 125 days ago when a rare tornado ripped through Jefferson County, leaving her without a home. Since that devastating day, she has been living at the shelter, waiting — watching as other cats come and go, while her forever home remains out of reach.”

Unfortunately, Aunt Meg’s troubles progressed after arriving.

“In her stress and confusion, Aunt Meg scratched at her own eye so badly that it had to be removed,” the post said.

Despite her hard times, the cream-colored cat hasn’t lost her charm and loving nature.

“She’s never caused trouble, always getting along with other cats, and has become the shelter’s longest resident. Despite everything she’s endured, Aunt Meg still holds on to hope for a family of her own,” the shelter said.

Meg is a shy girl, but “blossoms with the comforting touch of scratches behind her ears,” her pet profile says.

Wintersville is about a 140-mile drive northeast of Columbus.
