After months of construction, an Overland Park sports facility with an ice rink , eight basketball courts and more will open to the public next month.

The first phase of the AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk will celebrate its grand opening Saturday, Oct. 26, according to a media release from the company.

“The wait is over!” Becky Cornell, retail marketing manager for JLL real estate, wrote in an announcement to the media.

The $125 million park at 16201 Shawnee Drive (on the southwest corner of U.S. Highway 69 and 159th Street) will include a family entertainment center called Hawk’s Outpost. It will include arcade games, bowling, laser tag and sports simulators.

A cafe, bar and grill, training area and locker rooms will also be part of the sports park.

Visitors are invited to visit the new complex from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to take a look at the first 260,000-square-foot phase of the sports park.

At the event, developers will unveil plans for the next addition. The park will be 420,000 square feet when the second and final phase is complete.

Previously, developers with Price Brothers Management Co. secured $70 million in STAR bonds to fund the project.

AdventHealth Sports Park is nestled in the growing 277-acre Bluhawk development , which is home to several businesses but is still largely under development.

Of Course Kitchen & Company, Jinya Ramen Bar, Magic Noodle, Sierra, Rack Room Shoes and several other businesses have already opened at Bluhawk.

Barnes & Noble recently filed a permit application to open at the site.

A large “lifestyle center” called The Boundary will bring an additional 200,000 square feet of restaurants, shops, green space and play areas to Bluhawk by 2026.

Bart Lowen, vice president of development for Price Brothers, discussed that $75 million project with The Star earlier this year.

“It’s what the community wants to see,” Lowen said. “It’s what they’ve been waiting for because it does create that gathering space.”
