How will the tropical remnants of Francine affect Kansas City’s weekend weather?

The remnants of Francine are saying a “Midwest goodbye” as its prolonged exit from the area will affect Kansas City’s weather this weekend.

The storm’s center was located over northern Arkansas early Friday morning and it was not expected to move much Friday. It will likely meander near Missouri’s Bootheel by Friday evening, the National Weather Service said in its forecast discussion.

Francine made landfall on the southern coast of Louisiana as a Category 2 hurricane on Wednesday.

The tropical remnants were expected to influence the weather this weekend in Kansas City, ushering in additional cloud cover across the forecast area.

“Moisture will continue to wrap around this system, bringing the potential for low-end chances for light precipitation,” the weather service said.

Isolated to scattered showers were possible Friday, mainly east of Kansas City and into central and eastern Missouri. A few raindrops could fall on the east side of the metro.

Because of the clouds, temperatures will be cooler, ranging between the mid-70s and the lower 80s. Temperatures in Kansas City are expected to be around 78 degrees, a couple of degrees below the average of 80 degrees typically seen this time of year.

Temperatures for Friday night sports and activities are expected to be in the upper 70s and fall into the upper 60s by 10 p.m. The weather should be dry.

Francine’s tropical remnants this weekend

The tropical remnants are expected to move into northern Mississippi and Alabama on Saturday, becoming “far enough removed to keep conditions dry, with lesser cloud cover,” the weather service said.

This will allow temperatures to rise back into the mid-80s in Kansas City on Saturday and Sunday.

Rain chances return on Sunday as a pool of cool air associated with the remnants of Francine becomes elongated and extends from the southeastern part of the U.S. into the eastern part of the Kansas City forecast area.

There’s a 20 to 30% chance of showers, and maybe a few thunderstorms, mostly in areas east of U.S. 65. No severe weather is expected through the weekend.

The weather service said a similar setup is expected for Monday with showers and isolated thunderstorm chances across the eastern part of the Kansas City forecast area.
