Salty Iguana has closed its Olathe location at 10478 S. Ridgeview Road.

The Mexican restaurant announced on social media Saturday that the location would close the following day.

“It is with heavy hearts that we make the very difficult decision to permanently close our Olathe restaurant,” the restaurant wrote in its post . “We have loved being a part of the Olathe community!”

Fans flooded Salty Iguana’s page with support.

“NO, what a horrible thing to happen! We need you! And we want you!” one user wrote.

“Sad you have to close one, but so so grateful you’re still around!!!” another said.

That spot had been open since 2009. Salty Iguana’s original Prairie Village location at 8228 Mission Road has been open since 1992. Its other restaurants are in Independence at 17717 U.S. Highway 40 and in Lawrence at 4931 W. 6th St.

Its Overland Park location, 8420 W. 135th St., closed in 2019. It is now a Whataburger. That same year, Salty Iguana downsized the Olathe location to cut costs.

Salty Iguana is known for its Iguana dip (white pepper cheese and spinach), fajitas, street tacos and margaritas.

Mexican restaurant Coco Bolos , 5621 W. 135th St. in Overland Park, also closed recently and will now only operate as a catering business and for private events.

Last time I ate there was several years ago. Went with my son & daughter in law. I ate maybe a third of the burrito and my son took it home for his lunch the next day. He called and said “good thing you stopped eating when you did..found a plastic wrapper in the leftovers”. I’m saying good riddance..and sad at the same time.

I have eaten at other Salty Iguana restaurants. This one was terrible! Service was bad - food was bad. It needed to close!
