For the first time in 25 years, KC fried chicken restaurant will open a new location

Residents of Kansas City’s Northland will soon have easier access to gizzards and livers.

The locally owned fast-food chain Go Chicken Go plans to open a new location early next year at 380 N.E. Vivion Road. The space was formerly a Taco Bueno.

“Expanding into the Northland feels like the perfect next step in our journey,” said Alex Lowe, president of Go Chicken Go. “This city has supported us from day one, and we’re excited to continue cooking the food we love for the community that means so much to us. We look forward to bringing our passion for great fried chicken to even more of our Kansas City neighbors.”

The restaurant, known for its gizzards (chicken stomachs) and G-sauce, will have a drive-thru and a “refreshed” dining room design that will incorporate an online ordering system for quick carryout orders.

Founded in 1969 by Bill and Mary Hendrix, Go Chicken Go first started selling fried chicken in 1969 inside a Go Gas service station at 7th Street and Kansas Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas. The Hendrixes soon removed the pumps and changed the name to Go Chicken Go. In the 1970s, they opened two other locations — one at 38th Street and Leavenworth Road and one in the West Bottoms — but both have since closed.

The original Go Chicken Go was later relocated to 59 N. Seventh St. in KCK. A restaurant at 5101 Troost Ave. opened in 1986, followed by Olathe (1000 S. Harrison St.) in 1990, 8017 State Ave. in KCK in 1996, and Shawnee (4111 Shawnee Drive) in KCK in 2000.

The Northland restaurant will be Go Chicken Go’s sixth location.
