Trash bags pulled from an Indiana river contained the bodies of a missing man and woman, police said.

Dominique Washington, a 29-year-old “known drug dealer”, was arrested and charged with murder, according to court records.

The two 41-year-old victims, Christina Dixon and Matthew Johnson , were last seen getting into a vehicle with Washington on Sept. 19, Dixon’s 9-year-old son told Fort Wayne police. Dixon told her son “she would be back soon” before getting into the car and driving off with the two men, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Sept. 24.

At that moment, both victims’ phones went off network, investigators said.

The next day, their bodies were found in St. Mary’s River, police said.

According to court documents, a Richmond police sergeant said the two victims were “confidential informants” with the department.

But in a Facebook post, the Richmond Police Department denied that the two victims were informants.

A witness found the victims’ phones in a trash can after their death, according to documents. Phone records showed phone calls between the two victims and between Johnson and Washington, police said.

An autopsy ruled both deaths a homicide, finding Johnson died from a gunshot wound to the forehead and Dixon had been strangled and suffocated, according to the affidavit.

Washington was arrested and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 7.
