Cat ‘completely lost in grief’ is too ‘scared to move’ at shelter. She needs a home

A soul-shattered cat is in mourning at an Ohio shelter after she was brought in when her owner died.

Blaney, a petrified senior cat, is afraid of her new environment, the Jefferson County Humane Society and Jefferson County Animal Shelter in Wintersville said in a Sept. 26 Facebook post. Video posted shows the cat simply not responding to the volunteer attempting to nab her attention.

“Blaney is an 8-year-old grey and white cat who is completely lost in grief,” the post said. “After the devastating loss of her owner, she now finds herself in a shelter, confused, heartbroken, and terrified.

“The unfamiliar environment has caused her to shut down completely — she spends her days curled up in her kennel, too scared to move, only eating at night when the world is quiet.”

Blaney doesn’t allow people to get too close to her without hissing to protect herself.

“Blaney hasn’t shown us her true personality, but it’s clear that sadness and fear are weighing her down,” the post continued. “We believe that in the right home, with time and patience, she could begin to trust again.”

According to the shelter, she’s good with other cats and would do well in a quiet home where she can find her footing again.

For more information on Blaney, or other adoptable pets, visit the shelter’s website.

Wintersville is about 140 miles northeast from Columbus.
