One motorist was seriously injured Friday evening after driving between two cars and causing a five-vehicle crash in Kansas City, North, police said.

Officers responded to the crash around 6:20 p.m., at the intersection of Northeast Vivion Road and Indiana Avenue, according to Sgt. Philip DiMartino, a Kansas City Police Department spokesperson.

The driver of a black Audi S5 was westbound on Northeast Vivion Road when they attempted to drive between two cars. The driver of the Audi clipped a blue Chrysler 200 and struck the rear left side of a gray Subaru.

The Audi then struck a white Ford Fusion, causing it to spin and crash into a silver Jeep Laredo. After striking the Ford, the Audi then continued across several lanes of traffic on Northeast Vivion Road and slammed into a wooden utility pole on the south side of the roadway, DiMartino said.

The driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Police are investigating whether the motorist was driving while impaired, DiMartino said. The front seat passenger was not injured.

Police said the drivers in the Subaru and Chrysler said they were not injured. The Ford driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and passengers of the Jeep had minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene, DiMartino said.
