Patrick Mahomes’ new Adidas line will benefit KC’s Negro Leagues Baseball Museum

When quarterback Patrick Mahomes arrived at last week’s Chiefs-Saints game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, he wore a hoodie that paid tribute to the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro Leagues.

It also was a preview of his new collaboration with Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and Adidas.

Mahomes and Adidas on Tuesday unveiled the “Mahomes 2 x NLBM Collection,” which the athletic apparel company said was designed in collaboration with the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

“Inspired by Mahomes’ personal connection to the sport, the collection celebrates the 100th anniversary of the first Negro League World Series, won by the Kansas City Monarchs in 1924,” Adidas said in a news release.

Mahomes, whose father Pat Mahomes Sr., and godfather LaTroy Hawkins were major-league pitchers, said the Negro Leagues Museum and its president, Bob Kendrick, made an impression on him when he was Chiefs rookie in 2017 and toured the building during a rookie symposium.

“I got the hear the history, and it was the same stuff my dad and LaTroy had talked about when I was growing up,” Mahomes said. “My dad used to mimic Satchel Paige and some of the ways he’d do his mechanics. It hit me close because I had heard this stuff growing up.

“It was easy for me when Adidas came to me and said let’s make something that goes with Kansas City. I said: Negro Leagues Museum, and the Monarchs especially. I’m excited about how the shoe came out.”

Mahomes and Adidas shared a video promoting the new line of shoes and clothes, which can be found at adidas.com/us/patrick_mahomes . Adidas said proceeds from sales of this line will benefit the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

Kendrick shared his reaction on X with a video. He praised Mahomes for going “back to his baseball roots.”

Kiona Sinks, community engagement manager for the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, said the Mahomes items will be available in the museum.
