A brief altercation between two employees during a shift change left one dead, Indiana police said.

The two workers were in the parking lot outside of a manufacturing plant in Portage when witnesses say 22-year-old Le’Nell Jenkins and 20-year-old Lupe McGee Jr. started to argue, police said in a news conference posted by WLS.

McGee pulled out a handgun and shot Jenkins multiple times, police said. He then fled the scene at about 3:30 a.m. as Jenkins lay dead in the parking lot, officers said in the news conference.

Portage police arrested the accused shooter at his home in Merrillville hours later. The gun believed to be used in the killing was also found at McGee’s home, police said in an Oct. 16 Facebook post.

McGee was charged with murder and is currently held in Porter County Jail without bond.

Portage is about a 40-mile drive southeast from Chicago, Illinois.
