Two people are dead after a car crash in east Kansas City early Sunday morning, according to police.

A gray Dodge Hornet was speeding south on Jackson Avenue around 3:43 a.m., when it failed to stop at a red traffic light, according to Alayna Gonzalez, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department. The Dodge then T-boned a silver Ford Fusion traveling east on Truman Road through a green light. The Ford hit a wooden utility pole and the Dodge struck the side of a building.

Both the front passenger of the Dodge and the driver of the Ford were pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver and two additional passengers of the Dodge were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say impairment for the Dodge driver is under investigation.

This marks the city’s 78th and 79th this year, according to data tracked by the police department.

What are the odds of managing to find another car to run into at almost 4 o'clock on a sunday morning at Truman rd & Jackson? This guy's ticket was obviously up. If he hadn't been in a wreck, somebody probably would have shot him. But he was going to die no matter what.
