The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Key West Police Department and other law enforcement, military and community partners will host National Night Out events in the Upper, Middle and Lower Keys on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

All events will feature food, refreshments and an opportunity to meet neighbors, members of local law enforcement agencies and firefighters, as well as members of the military from a wide variety of divisions and special teams, and many others who are all involved in public safety in the Florida Keys.

The goal of National Night Out is to bring the community together to discuss how to make neighborhoods cleaner, safer and more secure. Community members can learn how to heighten their crime prevention awareness.

Each event — depending on the area — will feature displays of the Sheriff’s Office elite units such as the Dive Team, SWAT, and Crime Scene Investigation, among others, and will be joined by many partners such as the U.S. Coast Guard, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Highway Patrol, Monroe County Fire Rescue and other fire districts, Monroe County schools, business chambers, and others.

The events will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the following locations:

Key Largo Community Park, 500 St. Croix Place, Key Largo;Founder’s Park, 87000 Overseas Highway, Islamorada;Sheriff’s Office Aviation Hangar at the Florida Keys Marathon International Airport, 9400 Overseas Highway, Marathon; andBayview Park, 1320 Truman Ave., Key West

Hundreds of thousands of neighbors take part in National Night Out events in myraid communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August. Texas and select areas celebrate on the first Tuesday in October, according to National Night Out officials.
