RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Local residents and visitors to downtown Riverside can enjoy free ice cream with a vintage touch on Sunday during the Museum of Riverside's first "Ice Cream Social" in at least five years.

The event will begin at noon at the museum's Heritage House, where attendees will be served hand-cranked ice cream in a variety of flavors while enjoying old-fashioned music and other treats. The last social was held before the COVID-19 lockdowns, making this upcoming event "long-awaited and highly anticipated," according to museum officials.

The social is designed to transport visitors back to the Victorian era, offering a glimpse into how people relaxed and enjoyed hot spring and summer afternoons in the 1890s. "Many Americans adored some of the same favorite flavors we enjoy today, including vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry," the museum stated.

Adding to the charm of the event, several "celebrity scoopers" from the metropolitan area will be serving ice cream, although their identities remain a surprise.

The Heritage House, constructed in 1891, offers visitors a look into how Riverside's affluent lived at the turn of the previous century, showcasing a plethora of period items.

The ice cream social will conclude at 4 p.m.
