MORENO VALLEY, Calif. — Several hundred people are expected to participate in a fundraiser walk today around March Air Reserve Base in Moreno Valley to support homeless military veterans.

"We're raising money to ensure no veteran lives on the streets that they fought so bravely to protect," said U.S. Vets Inland Empire, the nonprofit organization hosting the inaugural "Steps for Vets" event.

The event will begin at 7 a.m. at the U.S. Vets office near Moreno Valley Skate Park, located at the intersection of Sixth and N streets on the east side of the air base. Participants, including families, friends, and military personnel, will embark on a 5-kilometer trek around the historic base. The route will utilize Sixth and Third streets, as well as Riverside and Meyer drives, all of which will be closed to traffic until 11:30 a.m.

"Veterans' and 'homelessness' should never be in the same sentence, and yet so many who bravely served our country find themselves sleeping on the streets," the organization stated.

U.S. Vets Inland Empire was established in 2018 to assist members of the U.S. Armed Services in transitioning to civilian life. The "Steps for Vets" event aligns with U.S. Armed Forces Day, observed nationwide today.
