Tripp Foster has won the District 6 seat in the Troup County School District. With the official results sitting at 679 or 53.85% to Foster, he will be running unopposed in the November election.

“I’m very excited for this great opportunity, and I want to thank the citizens of Troup County who have a majority, who had enough confidence in me to elect me to this most important office,” Foster said. Foster’s challenger Miracle Lovelace-Williams received 582 votes or 46.15%. Lovelace-Williams said she was grateful for the learning experience and congratulated Foster on his win.

“I met lots of new people and new opportunities that have come my way just simply because of that race,” Lovelace-Williams said. “And so, even though I lost, I’m still very much encouraged and feel ready to do the work for our children in our community.”

Lovelace-Williams is already an active member of the school system community and said she plans to continue that.

“You’ll catch me at the school events,” Lovelace-Williams said. “So I plan on continuing to be present at my children’s school, at other schools, mentoring our students and especially young girls.”

Looking ahead, Foster said he will place a focus on competitive pay for teachers and improving the reading level for students with a K-5th grade literacy mentorship program.

“The biggest room in any house is the room for improvement, and that applies to the schoolhouse as well,” Foster said. “There’s a lot of room for improvement and I want to be a part of the team to make that happen in our schools to improve conditions and pay for our teachers, substitute teachers, our bus drivers and to deliver a better education to these children.”
