Postseason awards at Corning's Crystal Lanes: Kennedy, Farr lead Men’s All-City Team

There were two bowlers at Crystal Lanes this season that averaged 230 or better and they will share the title of captain of the All-City, First-Team. Jamie Kennedy was at 231 for one league and Al Farr closed with a 230 mark in his best league.

Joining them on the All-City, First-Team are Tim DeGraw, JR Fleming and Paul Brion.

Jamie carded his 231 average for Manzari’s Grill title-winning team in the Joey’s Contracting Mixed League. He highlighted his campaign for Manzari’s with a 300 game and rolled his best series of the season in the same league with a 792 total. Jamie also finished with averages over 220 in three other leagues, all for the same sponsor, the Lightning Strikes Pro Shop. He rolled to a 224 mark in the Tire World of Corning Men’s League, a 222 average in the Gary Cortright Memorial Mixed League and also finished with a 221 average in the Hatfield Real Estate Men’s League.

Al Farr garnered his 230 average for Lane 33 Pro Shop in the Hatfield Real Estate League with a 797 high water mark. He matched that 230 average for Lane 33 Pro Shop in the Cortright Memorial League where he tossed his season best 825 series and one of his three 300 games during the season. Al tacked on a 229 mark for Crystal Lanes in the Tire World League and also recorded a 223 average in the Joey’s Mixed League. He also filled in for about 10 weeks in the Chilson-Wilcox Senior Men’s League with a 232 average for the Hatfield Real Estate squad.

Tim DeGraw hit the daily double for All-City Teams as he was also named as a member of the Senior Men’s All-City Team. Tim’s berth on the Men’s All-City, First-Team was earned with his 229 average for Wratten’s Bastards in the Joey’s League where he rolled one of his three perfect games this year. Tim registered a 223 average for Gridley’s Excavating team in the Hatfield Men’s League and proved to be a very valuable sub in the Tire World League, carding a 226 average.

JR Fleming bowled once a week at Crystal Lanes in the Tire World League and made the most of it. He recorded a 229 average for New Image Salon and capped the season with a 300 game and notched a bunch of wins in the brackets each week. His best series of the season was a 782 set.

Rounding out the First Team is Paul Brion, by the narrowest of margins. Bowling one night a week for the Woodhouse Stadium Grill squad in the Hatfield Men’s League, Paul finished with a 228.8 average. He just missed perfection with a 299 game and his high score for the season was a 793 effort. His 228.8 average was barely higher than a couple guys with 228.3 and one with 228.

    All-City Second Team

Three more bowlers finished the campaign at Crystal Lanes with averages just over the 228 mark. Nick Dobson and Adam Madigan both finished with a 228.3 average with identical pinfall in games rolled in two different leagues while Doug Madison notched a 228.1 average. Joining this trio on the Second-Team will be Jim Sjoblom and Derik Lisi.

Nick notched his 228.3 mark for Gridley’s Excavating in the Hatfield Men’s League where he rolled one of his two perfect games and a high series of 778. He also recorded a 300 game during a 799 series while subbing in the Tire World League.

Adam Madigan, the lone lefty on the All-City roster, posted his 228.3 average for Sam’s Bar & Grill in the Tire World League. Adam’s first nod on an All-City team was highlighted by a 300 game during a 772 series late in the season.

Another newcomer to All-City recognition is Doug Madison. He finished a solid season for Madison’s Mowing in the Legends Silver Fox Mixed League with a 228.1 average that included a 300 game and season best 774 series. Doug also carded a 219 average for John’s Bastard Kids in the Hatfield Men’s League.

A third newcomer to the All-City fold is Jim Sjoblom. His best effort of the year was a 226 average for Sam’s Bar & Grill in the Tire World League that also saw his best effort of the season, a 792 series. Jim also recorded a 219 mark for Woodhouse Stadium Grill in the Hatfield Men’s League.

Rounding out the All-City, Second-Team is Derik Lisi. Still considered one of the young guns on local scene, Derik finished with a 226 average for Acly-Stover Funeral Home in the Hatfield Men’s League. He highlighted his season with a perfect game and an 823 series.

These teams have nothing to do with the Crystal Lanes, the Corning Bowling Association or any other organization that you can think of. It’s simply my way of recognizing men, woman and senior bowlers who have enjoyed a solid season with a top average in any one league over the course of the year at Crystal Lanes.

Quick note – it’s time to take a couple of weeks off and we’ll see you the first week of June with the beginning of my summer columns.
