    Lexington Declares Special Day for Evan Jayson Smith, Local Hero Who Disarmed Gunman

    LEXINGTON, Ky.--At Thursday's Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council meeting, Lexington Mayor Linda introduced Evan Jayson Smith and his father, Curt Smith. This past fall, working security at a local downtown Lexington bar, Jayson disarmed a gunman, preventing many others from being seriously injured or worse during the incident.

    Jayson suffered a very serious gunshot wound which led to a month-long hospital stay. "After going through this traumatic experience, he is hopeful that a full recovery is in his future. Jayson, we know that your actions were brave and heroic. Thank you for your dedication to our community and to doing your job. At this time, it's my privilege to present this proclamation," Gorton said.

    Whereas on October 1st, 2023, Evan Jayson Smith disarmed a gunman, preventing many others from being injured or worse. And whereas, during the altercation, Evan suffered a critical injury which led to hospitalization at the University of Kentucky, Albert B Chandler Hospital, and then the spinal cord unit at Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital.

    And WHEREAS, despite the experience, Evan remains hopeful that a full recovery is ahead.

    And WHEREAS, Evan is continuing his studies at Western Governors University, where he's working on a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity and information assurance.

    And WHEREAS, the City of Lexington commends Evan for his bravery and dedication to our community. Now, therefore, I, Linda Gordon, mayor of Lexington, do hereby declare February 1st, 2024, as Evan Jayson Smith Day in Lexington.

    how is the Mayor going to stand up with this Man after she had people in place that was suppose to be in that area to control the crowd and diffuse any situation but the ran away... Now she trying to insert herself and program along with the city council after they let the community down and put public safety at Risk... This Man doesn't know that he wasn't supposed to be the one who had to break the incident up that there were folks there that was suppose to be there to protect the Public
