Lima's West Street Bridge reopens

LIMA — The City of Lima announced the completion of the West Street Bridge project Monday.

The city began the project to replace the bridge connecting North and South Shore drives across the Ottawa River in April.

“The work began in April 2024 to replace the bridge built in the 1970s, resulting in the closure of the area between North Shore Drive and South Shore Drive/West Eureka Street, along with a portion of the Rotary Riverwalk,” according to the city’s announcement. “These areas are not accessible to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.”

The city made improvements to the roadway, replacing the bridge deck and beams, and to the storm sewer.

It also added new sidewalks, ADA ramps, curb lines, curb ramps and newly resurfaced pavement.

According to the city, the project cost about $1.5 million and was funded by state and federal sources, with a 5% local match.

The city announced the project in 2022, originally projecting a cost of $1.8 million (bit.ly/4eMriUy) and originally expected the project to end by Aug. 28 (bit.ly/3TPsNJA).
