VAN WERT — One man pleaded guilty and one man waived his right to a speedy trial recently in the Van Wert County Common Pleas Court.

Shane Carroll, 33, of Convoy, entered a plea of guilty Sept. 5 to attempted terrorism, a fourth-degree felony. He was then sentenced to two years of probation; 30 days of jail time to be served at a later date; and mental health and substance abuse assessment and treatment.

According to a Van Wert Police Department report, on Aug. 28, dispatch received a call from Carroll about domestic violence. A dispatcher said Carroll said he would beat officers up for taking too long to get to the scene, and if officers didn’t come quickly he would beat up the dispatcher also.

Korbin Taylor, 26, of Van Wert, waived his right to a speedy trial Sept. 24 so his attorney has additional time to prepare his case. He is being charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony. Taylor’s bond was also modified to an own recognizance bond with conditions of electronic house arrest, a curfew and a no-contact order with the victim. A pretrial was set for Oct. 2.
