Central Alabama CrimeStoppers is offering a reward for information on a man wanted by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s office.

Bryant Terrell James, 40, is wanted in Lowndes County for a Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) violation. He is described as a Black male, 5-foot-9 and weighing 167 pounds.

Lowndes County Sheriff Chris West said his office is working to locate James as quickly as possible.

“We want to get him in here as soon as possible,” West said. “We don’t want people around who can’t comply [with SORNA requirements].”

Crimestoppers is offering a cash reward of an unspecified amount for information leading to the location and arrest of James.

States are required by SORNA to register and track sex offenders. A SORNA violation is a federal crime and may include failure to register or update their place of residence.

Regulations apply to persons who committed a sexual act with force, threat or incapacitation who were at least 14 years old at the time of the office. Compliance is a mandatory condition for federal offenders on probation, supervised release or parole.

West said Lowndes County rarely encounters problems with registration of known offenders.

“We don’t have too much problem with SORNA violation,” West said. “Most [sex offenders] report when they are supposed to. Violations are not very common, but when we do have them, we try to push [the news] out as hard and as fast as we can because we want everyone to be notified.”

To report James’s whereabouts, immediately call the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office at (I334) 548-2323 or CrimeStoppers using the 24-hour tip line at (334) 215-STOP (7867) or 1-833-AL1-STOP.
