    Reece, Johnson both win two events

    The Culver track & field squad was in Redmond Wednesday, April 17 competing in a four-team meet at Redmond High School against 5A Redmond, 5A Mountain View and 1A McKenzie.

    The Bulldogs took third in both the girls and boys competitions, with near exact scores. The boys scored 33 points and the girls 33.5. Mountain View won both the boys and girls titles, with 152.5 points and 110.5 points, respectively. Redmond was second, scoring 43 in the boys and 58 in the girls competition. McKenzie scored 6.5 in the boys and 14 in the girls.

    Sprinter Trent Reese continued his strong season, winning the 100 in 11.21. Jordan Best of Mountain View as second with a 11.42 while another Bulldog, Dustin Noy, took third at 11.67. Reese also smoked the field in the 200, clocking a 22.97. Redmond’s Owen Conway was second at 23.59. Reece has the fastest 2A 200 time in the state this season.

    Tyler Rahi provided a highlight with a 9-6 pole vault, good enough for second behind the Cougars’ Rex Cordell’s 12-6.

    Cole Rahi took third in the 800 with a 2:19.52 time. Kyle Kirsch of Mountain View won the event in 2:10.83. Rahi also took second in the 300 hurdles while teammate Julian Sanabria was fourth. Evan Sneed of Mountain View dominated in 43.59. Rahi clocked a 49.01 while Sanabria went 51.75.

    In the field, Josh Escobar was fourth in the discus with a 106-8.5 throw, sixth in the javelin with a 119-5 mark, and seventh in the shot put with a 36-11,

    Kaydon Haro went 5-0 to take sixth in the high jump.

    Lady Bulldogs

    Renee Johnson had yet another strong meet. The senior won two events, the long jump and the 300 hurdles. She added a second-place finish in the 100, clocking a 13.30 time, just behind Caitlyn Altman’s 13.27 for Mountain View.

    Johnson had just one opponent in the 300 hurdles, and she failed to post a time. Meanwhile, Johnson crossed in 50.52 for the win. Redmond’s Jillian Bremont sizzled in the 100 hurdles, finishing in 15.86, while Johnson took second in 17.26.

    In the long jump, Johnson went 15-7.25, just enough to nip Kaitlyn Kirsch of Mountain View, whose best was 15-7.

    Itzel Patino was third in the shot put with a 31-5 throw while Caroline Skidgel was sixth at 24-9. Skidgel was third in the discus with a 76-7, barely topping Patino in fourth with 75-2.5. Dylanne Jones-Randklev was sixth for Culver and Skye Smoldt eighth. Patino led the Dawgs in the javelin, tying for third with a 77-6 effort.

    Smoldt went 6-6 to tie for third in the pole vault.

    The Bulldogs will next compete at a meet with Crook County on Wednesday afternoon, April 24, along with Gladstone.
