    Reese smokes field in district 100

    Trent Reese ran a sub-11 seconds 100 meters to win the event at the 2A District 4 Championships Saturday in Hermiston. Reese also took second in the 200, losing by just four 100th of a second to Mazon Langford of Weston-McEwen.

    Reese also ran a leg on the Bulldogs winning 4x100 team. The Dawgs ran a 44.45, just enough to nip Weston-McEwen’s 44.55, with Enterprise clocking a close third at 44.82. The Culver 4x100 team features Reese, Kaydon Haro, Keegan Haro and Dustin Noy.

    Another highlight was a team win in the pole vault, where sophomore Tyler Rahi went 10-9.75 to win by 5.75 inches.

    All first and second place finishers earn berths at this week's state meet.

    Kaydon Haro sprinted to a fourth-place finish in the 200 with a time of 23.51. while Noy took seventh in 24.36. Noy finished fifth in the 100 with a 11.51 time.

    Cole Rahi finished fourth in the 400 with a 55.69 mark. Landon Boyd of Grant Union won in 52.99. Rahi also took sixth in the 300-meter hurdles, finishing in 46.55. Sam Wyse of Stanfield/Echo won in 43.33.

    Josh Escobar took fifth in the discus with a 111-10 throw, fifth in the javelin with a 133-10 heave, and eighth in the shot put with a 36-4.25 mark. Keegan Haro took eighth in the javelin at 110-01.

    Kaydon Haro was fourth in the high jump, clearing 5-1.25. The winning high jump was from Caleb Sprenger of Weston-McEwen at 6-0.75.

    Julian Sanabria was seventh in the 110 hurdles with an 18.70 time.

    Culver’s 4x400 team of Kaydon Haro, Rahi, Noy and Reese took fifth among five teams.

    Johnson shines

    Meanwhile, on the girls side, Culver’s Renee Johnson came home with four silver medal finishes. She took second in the 100, the 100 hurdles, the 300 hurdles and the long jump, and will be going to state in all four events.

    Johnson ran a 13.39 in the 100 meters, finishing behind Heppner’s Hallee Hisler, who finished in 13.12. Johnson and Nevaeh James of Enterprises battled in the hurdles. In the 100 hurdles, James ran a 16.51, edging Johnson by a half second. James took the 300 in 48.16 while Johnson crossed in 48.91, edging Kelsey Graham of Weston-McEwen.

    Johnson was heartbreakingly close to winning the long jump. She leapt 14-9.75 while Analicia Lopez of Weston-McEwen went 14-10.75.

    Itzel Patino was the only other Bulldog girl to place, taking fifth in the shot put with a 31-4.5 effort.

    The 2A/1A state track meet takes place Thursday and Friday, May 16-17, at Hayward Field in Eugene.

    Boys team scores – Weston-McEwen 218.5, Stanfield/Echo 103, Enterprise 80, Culver 69, Grant Union 49, Heppner 39, Irrigon 38.5

    Girls team scores – Enterprise 128, Heppner 114.5, Stanfield/Echo 110, Weston-McEwen 88.5, Grant Union 87, Culver 49, Irrigon 23
