Lake Billy, Simtustus open after cyanotoxin levels reduce
Oregon Health Authority has lifted the recreational use health advisory issued for Lake Billy Chinook and Lake Simtustus in Jefferson County. OHA issued the advisory on Aug. 8, after increased algal blooms were suspected by local officials, and confirmed via satellite. Thanks to a thumbs-up from a federal agency, more older adults and people with disabilities in Oregon could receive more options for support to continue to live independently in their own home. Madras High School football camp wraps up
Youth in grades third through eighth took part in the Madras White Buffalo Football Camp this past week, Aug. 12-15. Under new MHS head coach Neil Elshire, the MHS assistant coaches, and crew of current White Buffalos, the youth were instructed on various football skills, with a focus on high energy and having fun. Following the four-day camp, the young athletes headed home with a camp t-shirt. The White Buffalos begin their season Aug. 30 when they host a jamboree at the MHS stadium beginning at 5 p.m. The regular season starts Sept. 6 at Sweet Home.

Oregon Sen. Wyden praises big savings from Medicare negotiations with drug companies
Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden, who chairs the Senate Finance Committee, praised the Biden-Harris administration for negotiating lower drug prices for 10 prescription drugs in Medicare.
