    Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit Investigating Death of 17-year-old in Lewiston, Maine

    Maine Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer Shannon Moss announced that the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit is assisting the Lewiston Police Department in a death investigation.

    At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2024, a 911 call came in to the Lewiston Police reporting shots had been fired at 77 Rideout Avenue. When the Lewiston Police arrived at the scene, they observed a male in the road.

    The deceased male has been identified as Sahal Murdi, 17, of Lewiston. The male was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, and an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.

    Witnesses reported seeing a silver Mercedes fleeing from the scene along with a black Dodge Challenger with a temporary Maine registration plate. The driver of the Mercedes has been identified and is cooperating with investigators. This investigation is ongoing.
