    Maine's 47th Annual Wild Blueberry Fest: A Blueberry Extravaganza!

    Maine is the single-largest producer of blueberries in the United States, and with blueberries being the Maine state berry, those tasty little blueberries have plenty of reasons to be celebrated. Starting on Friday, August 17th, and running through the weekend, the 47th annual Wild Blueberry Festival in Machias will celebrate Maine's blueberries.

    The low-bush wild blueberries in Maine are harvested from July through August. The wild blueberry crop of Maine now produces a total crop of roughly 100 million pounds every year. The state’s five-year average is about 71 million pounds per year.

    To celebrate the little blue fruit, you can visit the Wild Blueberry Festival which will be held at the Centre Street Congregational Church on Center Street in Machias. There is no admission charge, and the festival will feature crafts, food, entertainment, contests, and all things blueberry.

    The festival opens on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. with craft booths, food vendors, fresh blueberries for sale, the Downeast Institute Touch Tank from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., a blueberry farm tour at 186 Roque Bluffs Road with directions to the farm available from the Centre Street Congregational Church info booth, and the kids parade will start lining up at 5:45 p.m. and kick off at 6:00 p.m.

    On Saturday, August 17, 2024, there will be a free shuttle service to the festival running from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Park at the Hannafords on Dublin Street to use the shuttle. The free shuttle will also offer service to the blueberry farm tour at 10:30 a.m. There will also be the Porter Memorial Library book sale from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

    On Sunday, August 17, 2024, the final day of the festival the craft booths will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., there will also be breakfast available of blueberry hand pies and coffee for purchase, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 the Porter Memorial Library book sale, 10:00 a.m. the community worship service, the food court and dessert buffet will be available for purchases from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m, and musical entertainment will be playing on the outdoor stage from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.
