The month of September has not been good news for the Bangor, Maine, restaurant scene, with the first announcement of a closure coming from the Legacy Sandwich Shop, 163 State Street, which has been in business for 14 years, announcing that they will be closing on September 28, 2024.

According to the owner, Diane, she is forced to close Legacy because of several factors, including the issues associated with the COVID pandemic, such as having to close and lose customers and then having to build up the customer base again along with staffing issues and the increasing costs of doing business.

On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, Wicked Brew Cafe at 173 Park Street announced on their Facebook page that they would be closing, making them the second closure. Wicked Brew opened up in 2017.

When will the covid excuses cease to be used? Your business failed because your meals weren’t that good, or prices too high. Covid and not the current administration which has forced thousands of businesses to close with their policies driving up costs of business?
