The town of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, is home to the Piscataquis Regional YMCA, which announced on Friday, October 4, 2024, that it will be closing no later than November 1, 2024. The YMCA opened in 1988 at 48 Park Street in Dover-Foxcroft.

The Piscataquis Regional YMCA said that the decision to close was due to the after-effects of the pandemic, reduction in memberships, programming, and declining public funds proved to be a combination of obstacles too great for the Piscataquis Regional YMCA to continue operations. Unfortunately, due to the declining revenues and escalating expenses, it was a clear decision that operations were financially unsustainable and the difficult decision was made to close the YMCA. The YMCA says anyone with questions can email CEO Scott Wilcox here.

The YMCA offered memberships at the following prices yearly:

The Piscataquis Regional YMCA also offered daily memberships at $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for seniors ages 65 and up, $8.00 for youth up to 18, and $20.00 for a family.

The YMCA says that all memberships and programming will be prorated and refunded. Membership dues will not be drafted on or after November 1, 2024. All Piscataquis Regional YMCA memberships will be honored at the Old Town-Orono YMCA. The Old Town-Orono YMCA is 39 miles away and is a 50-minute drive from Dover-Foxcroft.
