Following Ohio’s recent decision to legalize marijuana, Indiana is now bordered by three states where cannabis possession is legal.

McCormick’s proposal focuses on establishing medical marijuana access for Hoosiers with a clear path toward full adult-use legalization.

“Hoosiers have made it clear — they support adult-use cannabis and are frustrated by Indiana’s outdated prohibition laws,” McCormick said. “Our plan takes a commonsense approach by first introducing a well-regulated medical marijuana industry, allowing us to address potential regulatory challenges and ensure a smooth transition to full adult-use cannabis.”

The McCormick-Goodin Commonsense Cannabis Plan includes:

    • Indiana Cannabis Commission : This new regulatory body would oversee the state’s cannabis industry, ensuring compliance, licensing, and transparency as Indiana transitions to full legalization.
    • Medical Marijuana Industry : McCormick calls for the immediate establishment of a regulated medical marijuana market, giving Hoosiers access to cannabis for medical use while preparing for broader legalization.
    • Adult-Use Cannabis : The plan outlines a phased approach, moving from medical use to full adult-use legalization, addressing system challenges along the way.
    • Regulating Hemp-Derived THC : McCormick’s plan would regulate currently unregulated hemp-derived THC products, improving consumer safety and product standards.

McCormick estimates that legalizing adult-use marijuana could bring Indiana $172 million annually in tax revenue.

“Indiana is an island of prohibition surrounded by states with legal cannabis industries,” McCormick said. “By taking a responsible, phased approach, we can ensure that our state is prepared for full adult-use legalization while immediately providing relief through medical marijuana.”

it doesn't matter what her plan is. Indiana is a primarily Republican state which means she'll never get elected.
