Ohio: $157 Million in Legal Marijuana Sold During First 60 Days of Legal Recreational Sales

In Ohio, legal marijuana sales have soared to $157 million in the first 60 days of recreational sales.

Recreational marijuana sales began on August 6, and by September 7, the state’s Division of Cannabis Control reported $98,349,448 in recreational marijuana sales across 1,267,045 different transactions.

Additionally, Ohio’s medical marijuana market generated $59,248,804 in sales during the same period, bringing the total combined marijuana sales to $157,598,252 between August 6 and September 7.

During these 61 days, 20,497 pounds of marijuana flower and 2,476,848 units of manufactured products were sold.

The price of recreational flower has experienced a decline since the market opened, dropping from $9.42 per gram in mid-August to $8.13 as of October 7. Manufactured products similarly saw a slight reduction in cost, with prices decreasing from $31.65 to $29.72 on average.

Since the launch of Ohio’s medical marijuana program in January 2019, it has generated $2,075,606,960 in sales across 18,217,359 different transactions, with 297,989 pounds of flower and 27,864,037 units of manufactured products sold to date.

Under Ohio’s recreational marijuana law, which took effect on December 7, adults aged 21 and older can legally possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana or 15 grams of marijuana concentrates. The state’s Division of Cannabis Control regulates both the medical and recreational markets.
