Boys tennis in the area wrapped up last week when Marion Harding's Alexander and Sebastian Lisiecki moved one match away from earning a Division I state berth.

The brother doubles team became the first Harding boys to win a district match since 2007 and the first to do so in the Central District since 2001.

Fahey Bank Athlete of the Month: River Valley's Ethan Lyon 'waiting to pop that big one'

District track: Mount Gilead makes it a three-peat at Saturday's district track and field championships

As for softball, that also wrapped up last week as none of the area teams could get by the district semifinals.

So that leaves baseball with five schools still playing during district week this week, while track and field moves on to regionals.

    Last week's polls

As for last week's Marion Star Best of the Week Performer Polls, the girls saw 2,334 votes cast with the winner earning 1,028 (44 percent). Winning it was Cardington track's Magi Hallabrin who won the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference championship in the 800 meters at 2:32.72 and was second in the 1600 and third in the 3200.

Other girls nominees were Ridgedale softball's Alexis Burton, River Valley track's Eva Moran, Marion Harding softball's Janaiye Braddy, North Union track's Gabby Lindsey and Mount Gilead track's Kimberly Staley.

In last week's boys poll, there were 720 votes with Highland baseball's Kort Sears winning it with 314 (44 percent). Sears helped his team clinch a sixth straight league championship by pitching a three-hitter with two walks and seven strikeouts plus two singles against Ontario.

Other boys nominees were River Valley track's Cooper Miller, Pleasant track's Hudson Warner, North Union track's Tyler Huff, Ridgedale track's Brogan Weston, Mount Gilead track's Logan High and the Harding doubles team of the Lisiecki brothers.

The Marion Star's next-to-last poll of the school year will be this week for boys and girls. Voting for each can be conducted at MarionStar.com and its app through early Sunday morning.
