    Tournament Roundup: Pleasant rolls, Elgin rallies in volleyball openers Wednesday

    MARION — Top-seeded Pleasant had no trouble against No. 11 seed Grandview Heights winning the Division VI volleyball tournament opener 25-8, 25-8, 25-7 Wednesday night.

    For the Spartans, Syd Smith posted 30 assists and 10 points, Kamryn Cocherl 12 kills and eight points, Kenzley Davis seven kills and Kam Roberts 13 points, three aces and eight digs.

    On Tuesday at 6 p.m., Pleasant will host No. 12 Mount Gilead in a tournament game.

    Volleyball

    ● North Union defeated No. 11 seed Northmor 25-12, 25-17, 25-21 in a Division V match Tuesday. The Wildcats got 29 assists from Kennedy Harrah, 15 kills and two blocks from Kate Zimmerman, three aces from Audrey Baldwin and 11 digs from Emma McElroy. No. 3 seed North Union will host No. 8 seed Utica Tuesday at 6 p.m.

    ● No. 5 Fairfield Christian Academy beat No. 9 Ridgedale with scored of 25-19 in all three sets. For the Rockets, Richelle Gleespen had 22 digs and 25 serve receptions, Payton Wall 10 points, two aces and 10 digs, and Camryn Thiel seven points, two aces, 13 assists and nine digs.

    ● No. 4 Elgin found itself trailing 2-0 at home to No. 8 Mechanicsburg, but the Comets rallied 25-20, 25-19, 15-8 to win the Division VI match. Elgin will now play at No. 3 Centerburg Wednesday at 6 p.m.

    ● No. 2 Newark Catholic downed No. 10 Cardington 25-17, 25-18, 25-12 during a Wednesday match in Division VI.

    Girls Soccer

    ● North Union won its first girls soccer tournament match in program history when it beat No. 7 seed West Jefferson 1-0 on Monday night in a Division V contest. The eighth seeded Wildcats got the lone goal from Kale Keigley off a Lauren Hall assist. Kailyn Colegrove had the shutout in goal for North Union. The Wildcats will now play at top seed Fairbanks Saturday at 3 p.m.

    ● No. 8 seed Licking Valley downed No. 9 Marion Harding 6-1 Tuesday night in a Division III match. The Presidents cut it to 2-1 in the 32nd minute when Gabby Neault scored off a Ivy Russell corner kick and it was 2-1 at halftime.

    ● No. 5 Highland blanked No. 11 Heath 5-0 in a Division IV match on Tuesday. The Scots will now go to No. 2 Columbus Academy Thursday at 7 p.m.

    ● Top-seeded Worthington Christian stopped No. 9 River Valley 8-0 in a Tuesday match in Division IV.
