Bring on the tournament: Monday's Fantastic Five (or so) standout high school athletes

Call it a postseason appetizer.

The Central Mass. tournaments are underway. Track and field and golf league championships are being decided. The MetroWest and Milford-area Fantastic Five (or so) high school athletes are guiding their teams to victories in pursuit of the state championship.

Here's who stood out the most Monday, May 20:

ZACHARY BARTON (AMSA) & KENNY KALVINEK (Blackstone Valley Tech), boys track and field

They each won two events at the Colonial Athletic League Championships. Barton doubled in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.57 seconds and the 400 hurdles (59.89). Kalvinek won the discus (147-6) and shot put (48-1). Assabet's Alexander Mathieu cleared 5-8 to win the high jump. Joshua Thomas tossed the javelin 124-7 for a gold medal for AMSA.

ALANNAH DUFFY, Ashland girls lacrosse

She turned away five shots and picked up her 100th career save in a 17-9 victory over Norwood. Anna Magennis led the Clockers (13-6, 10-4 Tri-Valley League) with five goals and four assists. Ashland's Paige Tripp accounted for five points with two goals and three assists. Julia Schreiber found the net four times, while Morgan Dubanowitz (three goals, assist) and Lili Vitti (two goals, tow assists) collected four points each. Payten Tripp had a goal and an assist for Ashland.

PEYTON KNOTT (Assabet Valley) & HALEY BILODEAU (Blackstone Valley Tech), girls track and field

They each won three events at the Colonial Athletic League Championships. Knott finished first in the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches), 800 (2:26.61) and mile (5:34.47). Bilodeau took first in the javelin (102-11), 100 hurdles (16.39) and 400 hurdles (1:03.28). AMSA's Ava Georger won the two-mile in 13 minutes, 1.73 seconds, leading the Eagles to a team title with 85 points. They edged second-place Worcester Tech by a point (84). Keefe Tech's Jessica Zanchi cleared 15-11 to win the long jump, while the Broncos won the 4x100 relay (52.63).

ZACH LANGEVIN, Franklin boys lacrosse

He set the Panthers single-game assists record with eight in a 21-1 victory over Taunton. Langevin also had two goals for Franklin (15-2, 11-0 Hockomock). Drew Hansen and Eddie O'Brien each collected a hat trick for the Panthers.

KATIE NG, Wellesley girls golf

She shot a 36 at Weathervane Golf Club to win the Bay State Conference individual title. The Raiders also won the team championship with a 123, seven strokes clear of the competition. Wellesley's Denis Pan was fourth (42).

LAUREN O'MALLEY, Hudson softball

The junior was 4-for-4 and launched a three-run homer in a 14-1 win over Northbridge. She collected her 100th career hit. Sam Collette was 4-for-4 with two doubles for Hudson (12-5), while Alyssa Davis added three hits and Colbie Lacina had two. Hawks eighth grader Vita Lagattolla struck out seven over six innings and had four hits, as many as she allowed.

ALEX VOSBURGH, Blackstone Valley Tech baseball

He launched a walk-off double in the bottom of the eighth inning to deliver a 1-0 win over Bay Path in the Central Mass. Class B semifinals. Max Pilkington was 2-for-3 for BVT (15-4) and scored the winning run after a single. Beavers pitchers Dylan Brady (five innings) and Jack Marino combined for the shutout.

Baseball

HUDSON 7, Burncoat 1: Caelen O'Brien had three hits and three RBIs for the Hawks (9-9). Hudson's Blake Freitas scored twice and connected with two hits.

MILLIS 3, Bellingham 1: Freshman Brody Barrett threw a complete game for Millis (3-14) with nine strikeouts and just one walk. Millis' Kaelan Riggs and Hayden Leach each hit an RBI single, and Adam Hart contributed two hits.

LINCOLN-SUDBURY 7, Andover 6: Logan Umbach drove in the go-ahead run for the Warriors (15-4) in the top of the seventh. Ryan Gallagher doubled in the top of the seventh before he was replaced by pinch runner Matthew Stagno, who scored the winning run. L-S senior Jake Haarde scored three runs on a 3-for-4 day that included a double. Sam Shuckerow threw 4 2/3 innings with four strikeouts against just three hits.

MILFORD 2, Franklin 0: Austin Campbell struck out nine over five innings and allowed three hits for the Panthers. Franklin's Jake Shaughnessy punched out five in two innings of relief. Henry DiGiorgio had two hits for Franklin.

HOPKINTON 3, Westwood 1: Sean McCann dropped in a two-run single in the seventh to give the Hillers separation. Peter Mahon singled, while Dylan Ruff, Will Morgan and Derek Hatherley scored a run each. Hopkinton's Drew Riesenberger earned the win in relief, striking out seven over three innings and allowing just one hit and two walks.

HOLLISTON 10, Medfield 0 (5): Jake Schoenberg struck out nine over five innings for the Panthers and allowed just three hits with four walks. He also doubled and scored two runs with three stolen bases on a 2-for-3 day. Holliston's Sam Schoenberg (stolen base) and Arav Prajapati each had a hit and two RBIs. Teddy Peters (five stolen bases), Brogan Roche and Drew Kafka each contributed a hit and an RBI.

WESTBOROUGH 14, Fitchburg 0: Justin McCafferty struck out eight and allowed just two hits in a shutout for the Rangers (6-12). Westborough's Will Edinberg added a two-run single and scored three runs.

ASHLAND 7, Norwood 2: Ty Letichevsky punched out 10 in the complete game victory and launched a homer for the Clockers (10-8). Ashland's Devin O'Brien had four RBIs and two hits.

TRI-COUNTY 11, Norfolk Aggie 10: The Cougars trailed 9-1 in the first inning before clawing back. Haley Kunicki scored the winning run in the seventh on an over throw to third base after a MacKenzie Duffy double plated two runs. Tri-County's Ava Cossette scored four runson a 3-for-5 day and stole two bases. Nicole Ayre, Maddy Benoit, Duffy, Kunicki, Breann MacMillan and Neila Schweitzer each had tow this for the Cougars (13-3)

MILLIS 13, Bellingham 1: Riley Caulfield threw a one-hitter and contributed two hits and two RBIs for Millis (8-9). Millis' Kyra Rice drove in three runs.

BLACKSTONE VALLEY TECH 3, Hopedale 1: Lynsey Kay had a double, a triple and two runs, Brooke Gniadek drove in two runs, and Arihana Mercado added two hits for the visiting (8-10). Layla Huntley had two hits for the Blue Raiders (15-3), and Delaney Vaillette added a hit and RBI.

AMSA 6, Nimpuc 0: Grace Galvin went 2-for-3 with an RBI triple, and Ava McLeod tossed a five-hit shutout for the host Eagles (13-3). Janelle Scirocco recorded two hits for the Warriors (15-2), and Sera DeBaggis doubled.

DOHERTY 11, Westborough 2: Hannah Rice and Brianna Sawicki both went 2-for-4 for the Rangers (7-10).

WORCESTER SOUTH 9, Algonquin 4: Cassie Hodge went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Titans (4-12) , and Gianna Esposito added two hits and an RBI.

AYER-SHIRLEY 9, Marlborough 7: Catherine Seay went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs for the Panthers (10-7), and Marisol Burgos was 3 for 3 with two RBIs and a run.

LINCOLN-SUDBURY 11, Methuen 5: Grace Messina crushed an inside the park home run and had two RBIs for the Warriors (17-0). L-S' Sarah Danielson and Sophie Jorjorian added two RBIs each.

Boys lacrosse

DOVER-SHERBORN 16, Medway 6: Grant Sullivan had eight goals for the Raiders (9-8, 8-3 TVL). D-S' Henry Fowler had eight points with five assists and three goals.

Girls lacrosse

WACHUSETT 10, Westborough 9: Taylor Payne put away two goals for the Rangers (15-3). Westborough's Lucy Petralia added two assists and a goal in the Central Mass. Class A semifinals.

NIPMUC 15, Tyngsborough 8: Fallon Lozano had five goals and one assist, and Riley Collura chipped in two goals and three assists for the Warriors (12-4) in the Central Mass. Class B semifinal. Nipmuc will face the winner of Tuesday's Notre Dame/Tahanto game in Thursday's final at Foley Stadium.

Boys volleyball

NATICK 3, Newton South 0: Branch Barnes contributed 11 kills for the Redhawks (14-2) Natick's John Carroll chipped in seven kills.

Boys tennis

MARLBOROUGH 5, Tyngsborough 0: Sumair Singh led the Panthers into the Central Mass. Class B finals with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Trey Hartigan at No. 2 singles. Marlborough's top doubles team Simon Valentino and Keshav Kumar prevailed 6-0, 6-0 against Gabe Pinto and Sean Culver. Panthers No. 1 Maurya Virmani defeated Arjun Jatain 6-1, 6-0, while No. 3 Duc-Tri Nguyen needed three sets against Sudan Meyyappau 4-6, 6-2, 10-7. Marlborough's No. 2 doubles team Ethan Kwan and Malav Ravula won 6-1, 6-2 against Bari Atiq and Rishaan Patel.

WESTBOROUGH 3, Weston 2: Kaden Chen secured the Rangers victory with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles against Max Ding. Westborough also leaned on its doubles depth. Michael Ku and Zach Forjette survived three harrowing sets against Sammy Regelman and Ben Rostenfield 4-6, 6-4 7-6, (7-3) at No. 2. The Rangers No. 1 team Brendan Estephan and Eeham Khan prevailed 6-0, 6-1 against Max Burd and Wate Ko.

Girls tennis

WESTON 3, Westborough 2: Isabel Feldman earned a point for the Rangers (10-4) with a gutty 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Jackie burns at No. 2 singles. Westborough's No. 1 doubles team Sahasra Kommineni and Elena Chen also prevailed in three sets 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 over Lila Li and Sophie Sima.

AMSA 3, Doherty 2: Saisha Kolluri paved the way for the Eagles (4-11) with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Olivia Talbot at No. 1 singles. AMSA No. 3 Sameera Patnala bested Emma Delia 7-5, 6-0, and the Eagles No. 2 doubles pair Gloria Yen and Kate Allison defeated Rachel Marhefka and Mary Goodness 6-2, 6-0.

MILLIS 4, Fontbone 1: Liv Fong (No. 1 singles) and Amelia Stapels (No. 2 singles) set the tone with 6-0, 6-0 victories for Millis. Millis' No. 1 doubles team Adriana Villacis and Addy Loer prevailed 6-2, 6-1, and Izzy Doherty and Taylor O'Toole picked up a point with a 7-5, 6-1 victory.

HOLLISTON 3, Medfield 2: Caroline Cosgrove (No. 1 singles) and Lindsey Haddad (No. 2) singles each picked up straight set wins for the Panthers (8-6, 8-5 TVL). Holliston No. 3 Nami Raja prevailed in three sets.

HOPEDALE 5, Notre Dame (Worcester) 0: The Blue Raiders (9-2) swept in to the Central Mass. Class C final. Abbie Aldrich and Callie Costanza bested Aggie Mihopolous and Saylor Dewitt 7-6, 7-6 at No. 1 doubles, and Hopedale's No. 2 team Gabriella Rinehart and Madison Buttonow bested Rachelle Lito and Catherine Potvin 6-4, 6-0. Hopedale No. 1 Pia Obrador overpowered Laila Bender 6-1, 6-4. At No. 2 singles, Kate Friesema defeated Amanda Rosacci 6-3, 6-1, and Sidney Hall won 6-1, 6-0 against Brianna Allebach at No. 3.

WELLESLEY 5, Framingham 0: Sophomore Kate Snow won her first varsity match 6-1, 6-0 in her first appearance at No. 3 singles for the Raiders (15-1).

Girls golf

WESTBOROUGH 28, Quabbin 20: Ashley Huang earned medalist honors with a 46 at Quail Hollow for the Rangers (10-6).
