Sudbury Farms grocery store closes to address 'pest control, facility improvements'

SUDBURY The Sudbury Farms grocery store on Boston Post Road has closed due to pest issues.

Several signs announcing the closure were posted Thursday afternoon on and just outside the entrance to the 439 Boston Post Road (Route 20) store, which is owned by Mansfield-based Roche Bros. Supermarkets .

The large red signs each read: "Temporarily closed. Store is temporarily closed for pest control and facility improvements. We'll open as soon as possible. Thank you for understanding."

Beth Porter, coordinator for the Sudbury Health Department , said Thursday that Sudbury Farms had closed voluntarily. She said Sudbury officials have received several complaints of pests inside the store, although she did not disclose the what kind of pests were involved.

"We're monitoring the situation and we're in contact with Roche Bros.," Porter said, adding that no reopening date has been determined. She said the store must come up with an action plan to submit to the Health Department.

"It depends on how aggressively they move," Porter said. "There has to be movement on the plan."

It's not clear how long the store has been closed. A post on Sudbury Farms' Facebook page just after 5 p.m. Wednesday mentions a sale on apple cider, but does not mention the closure. The store's website, however, does say it's "temporarily closed."

Last December, credit card skimmers were found in a self checkout lane at Sudbury Farms and at several other Roche Bros. stores.

No one from Roche Bros. returned a call seeking comment on Thursday.
