MILFORD Suspended Milford Police Officer Timothy Brennan, who was fired earlier this year from his previous position as a Hopkinton police sergeant, is scheduled for a hearing on Friday before the state Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission .

The POST Commission is investigating further the circumstances behind Brennan's termination in Hopkinton, which happened in February after an independent investigator found that he did not report what he knew about a sexual assault case involving a higher-ranking officer.

The Milford Police Department hired Brennan last month as a patrol officer. He is currently on unpaid leave from the department, per the POST Commission.

It has not yet been determined whether Friday's hearing will be open to the public. A spokesperson for the POST Commission did not say why the hearing may not be.

The POST Commission is a state agency created in 2020 as part of criminal justice reform legislation. It helps investigate police misconduct complaints and certifies officers.

Brennan has said rape victim told him she wouldn't corroborate story

The POST Commission suspended Brennan on Aug. 15 as part of its own investigation about what Brennan knew about an alleged sexual assault committed by former Hopkinton Deputy Police Chief John "Jay" Porter .

Brennan has previously said in public statements that Porter's accuser first told him about the allegations in 2017, when she was an adult. Brennan said he didn't report the allegations because the victim had told him she wouldn't corroborate the story. He and his attorneys argued that by not reporting the assaults, Brennan made it possible for the accuser to come forward to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office .

'All about transparency': POST Commission formed as a result of 2020 Mass. police reform law

Brennan was fired in February after the Select Board voted, 4-1, to accept Police Chief Joseph Bennett's recommendation to terminate the sergeant.

When a person tells you they are a victim of a crime, next time, be a cop and report it. Simple. But there won't be a next time. POST is going to do their actual job and get rid of you!
