Expectant moms often face intriguing challenges, and nicknames for grandparents can be one of them. One mother recently expressed her unease over the pet name her mother-in-law chose for herself, fearing it might cause confusion with her desired "mama" title for her own role.

Voicing her concerns on Reddit's JustNoMIL forum, the concerned mom posted, "Mother-in-law wants to be called Mimi by her grandkids. Thoughts? Is this too close to mama and should I be worried? ".

She added more context to her dilemma, stating, " My mother-in-law and I have had issues in the past (with her being overbearing and visiting without being invited etc) but we have overcome a lot and now have a very great relationship. I'm just curious about the term Mimi as I haven't heard it before."

Fellow Redditors chimed in, offering reassurance that 'Mimi' is quite a popular choice among grandmothers, similar to other endearing names like 'Me-Maw. ' One commenter contributed, "Very common grandmother nickname. As are Mam-Maw, Me-Maw, and Momo. None of them sound even remotely like Momma/Mama."

Another added their perspective: "Mimi is the new grandma. Every new grandma I know is called 'Mimi'. My godchildren all call me Mimi.", reports the Mirror .

"You might be a little over sensitive due to your past with your mother-in-law, but Mimi is a great name and not close to mama at all, really. She sounds like she is staying in her lane. It was nice to read the two of you have sorted out the relationship," one social media user commented.

Another Redditor threw in their two cents about the moniker mix-up: "If Mimi bothers you, add her first name. For example, Mimi Bev."

Meanwhile, another granny was thrown for a loop when her son and daughter-in-law weren't thrilled about her being called "grandma" by the new bambino.

The confused grandma discovered her daughter-in-law expected her to want a "special" nickname to be used exclusively by their kid, even though she's already known as "grandma" in the family circle.
