A body has been found after a desperate search for a missing five-year-old boy who wandered from his own birthday party.

Matthew Glynn was last seen on Monday afternoon while celebrating his fifth birthday at home in Boise, Idaho. The youngster had been celebrating by playing with friends and family moments before he vanished . After an initial search yielded no results, frantic family called police who launched a search for the boy.

Tragically, Boise police have now announced a body was found in a canal about half-mile north of his home. While a formal identification is yet to take place, the body is believed to be that of missing Matthew.

Police said there appears to be no signs of foul play. Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar said in a statement: "We are heartbroken over this development today. We want to thank our many partners for their response as well as the public for their willingness to help another member of our community in a time of need."

The huge search launched on Monday involved drones, ATVs, UTVs and tracking dogs while police also conducted door-to-door searches and checks of residents' back yards. The Boise Fire Department said: "Sadly, this is not the outcome we were all hoping for. Our hearts go out to Matthew's family, and we extend our deepest condolences during this incredibly difficult time."

Police are searching for the man who kidnapped the baby girl on Monday after an argument with the child's mother at around noon on Monday in the 6000 block of Lost Horse in the area of Citrus Avenue and Sierra Lakes Parkway, Fontana, California.

The child's mother was having an argument with a man who has only been identified as "Q" before he grabbed the child and fled on foot. The suspect has been described as a Black male about 5-feet 7-inches tall, with shoulder-length dreadlocks. He was reportedly wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans and the baby girl was wearing a blue onesie with a pink donut, reports abc7.
