After a multivehicle pileup on a Texas highway on Tuesday, a man involved in or impacted by the accident allegedly assaulted a bystander, stabbing them, then stole vehicles and hit other drivers with the stolen vehicles.

It was a massive-scale episode of road rage that left multiple people — as many as 3, according to the Austin American-Statesman — hospitalized, with one in critical condition.

Traffic was reportedly blocked for several hours amid the incident, which occurred on Interstate 635 at around 7 a.m. in a region of Northeast Dallas near Forest Lane, local police told the Statesman.

Angel Zamora Moreno, 26, was reportedly angry that the crash had happened and got out of his vehicle. When a bystander attempted to intervene, Moreno allegedly stabbed them, it was reported, then stole a Texas Department of Transportation truck after the driver stopped to help the bystander.

The driver was then hit by the stolen vehicle. Leaping out, the suspect then allegedly stole another vehicle and hit its driver as well, the police told the Statesman.

After the second driver was hit by their own vehicle, other bystanders were able to restrain Moreno until the police arrived, it was reported. Dallas Fire-Rescue then took all three victims to the hospital. The person who was stabbed was reportedly critical, while the other two were stable. Moreno was also reportedly taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Moreno was then arrested and charged with seven counts of aggravated assault, two counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and one count of criminal mischief.

The stabbing allegedly occurred after Moreno got into an altercation with another driver, with a bystander attempting to intervene. That bystander was the one who was stabbed, CBS News reported.

For several hours after the incident, the westbound lanes of I-635 were shut down, reopening just after 11 a.m., CBS reported. Moreno is being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $901,500 bond. He was also reportedly previously charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Malori Mitchell, who witnessed the entire ordeal go down, told CBS News, "I was shaking. My voice was shaking when I called 911. I was watching somebody try to kill another person. It was a terrifying Tuesday morning."
