'Golden Bachelor' fans accuse Gerry Turner of 'playing' Theresa Nist

The Golden Bachelor gave millions of single people hope that they could find love at any age, until the rug was quickly pulled from under their feet.

Gerry Turner, who was the inaugural season's eligible bachelor, ended up choosing Theresa Nist to be his wife, but alas, they didn't work out.

While things seemed great between them at first and fans were sure they'd found their happy ending, the couple was headed for divorce just a month after they tied the knot after meeting on the reality show.

During the first season of The Golden Bachelor, Gerry shared that he hadn’t dated anyone since losing his wife Toni Turner of 43 years a few years before the show.

While the goal of the show was for him to find another wife, some fans believe that the attention he got while on The Golden Bachelor revealed his real intentions—to date multiple women. Some fans think that Gerry has been a " womanizer " from the start, whose goal was to date as many women as he could, instead of being a one-woman man as he said he was.

According to Gerry, he didn't have much experience with dating, telling Entertainment Tonight that he hadn't dated for years, which is why he wanted to be on the show. But that turned out to be questioned when The Hollywood Reporter uncovered that he had gotten into a relationship with a younger woman, a month after his wife died. So did he play Theresa?

The woman, who chose to remain unnamed, said they had a nearly three-year relationship after meeting at work. She said they dated for 10 months and even lived together for a year and nine months. On the show, he said he hadn't kissed anyone in six years. Still, he was charming, smooth and effortlessly won over the contestants' hearts—the way a seasoned dater would, some fans claimed.

A former employee at a bar Gerry frequented told the publication that he had dated after his wife's death. “He dated a couple of women. They weren’t all long-term, but they weren’t short-term either," she shared. "He was with a couple of women for a decent amount of time, but it just didn’t work out.”

When the THR article was released in November, Bachelor Nation was up in arms, with some believing that the report caused trouble in his relationship with Theresa. The in-depth article painted him in a terrible light, suggesting that he had broken things off with the woman coldly and cruelly, but also that his "perfect man" image on the show was not real.
