General Hospital star Kirsten Storms shares ‘black eye’ from freak coffee accident

General Hospital star Kirsten Storms sparked fear in fans as she shared a picture of the unexpected "black eye" she suffered after a freak coffee accident.

This week Kirsten, who famously plays Maxie Jones on the hit soap opera, took to Instagram sharing an up-close black and white snap where she appeared to have suffered a nasty injury. And while at first glance it appeared that she was on the losing end of a fight, the actress hilariously confirmed that it was actually at the hands of her coffee canister.

As she shared the quirky selfie with her 409k fans, she clarified that her "black eye" was all her own doing after she accidentally exploded coffee grinds onto her face. Under the post, she wrote: "One of those 'funny story, but not funny when I need coffee' moments… I’ve opened several canisters of @illy_coffee tins and never have the grounds exploded out of that cute metal container. ::sigh:: There is a first time for everything."

She continued: " I can say with certainty that I prefer my coffee brewed in hot water (or over ice)…straight from the container doesn’t taste that good," and jokingly added: "(*In their defense, there is a warning on the lid. It’s written in several languages.*)"

Fans were in hysterics over the post with many relieved that Kirsten, or her television character Maxie, didn't encounter any real trouble. One fan commented: "I thought it was a GH storyline!! I’m thinking ‘who would dare to give Maxie a black eye?’" And another wrote: "I couldn’t love this post more. You’re hilarious and adorable. Glad you’re okay!" And a third chimed in: "Not me thinking you had filmed a crazy scene for the show and this was your makeup."

Kristen is well-known and loved for her role as her outspoken character Maxie on General Hospital, a role that she first took on back in 2006. In the soap, Maxie is the the eldest daughter of supercouple Frisco Jones and Felicia Cummings and was raised most of her life by Mac Scorpio. In recent episodes Maxie has taken charge as the head of the PR department at the newspaper Crimson, where she recently stepped up and came to the rescue after the Natalia homophobic recording crisis .
