New York couple charge all guests $333 'per ticket' to attend their wedding

When planning a wedding , costs can quickly rack up, with weddings on average now costing American couples tens of thousands of dollars.

The venue is an important part of the big day, from the aesthetics to the capacity and location. But if you're looking to get married in New York City , that venue can come with a hefty price tag.

When Nova and Reemo Styles were organizing their wedding in New York City, they quickly realized they would need to spend at least $150,000 for the venue alone. That was a bit of an issue, considering they were already planning an expensive 12-hour day of celebration for 350 guests.

But, rather than becoming frustrated by the cost, or giving up on their dream of a NYC venue, they came up with a plan. In order to help them cover the cost of their big day, the couple began selling tickets to their invited guests for their June 2023 wedding.

Each ticket cost $333, but when friends and family saw the cost, more than 80 per cent decided to decline the invite, leaving Nova and Reemo with just 60 of their 350 invited guests attending. Those willing to pay the cost got a seat at the pair's nuptials, held at St Patrick's Cathedral, as well as a spot on their double-decker party bus that took guests on a tour of NYC landmarks, including The Edge at Hudson Yards, for photos, and a luxurious steak and lobster dinner at the reception, held at One World Trade center.

In total, the newlyweds saved an incredible $70,000, which they've already put aside for starting a family and possibly even launching a foundation for couples undergoing IVF later down the line. The couple posted about their money-saving solution on TikTok in May 2024, asking in the caption: "Did we really sell tickets to our wedding!?"

The video shows a series of clips from their special day, including their iconic cathedral ceremony and the double-decker party bus, complete with a giant portrait of the pair. Shots of the wedding party are also shown, with neon outfits and lavish fits.

But the internet was divided by the couple's decision to charge guests hundreds of dollars to attend their wedding. One person exclaimed "What a joke! These people are cheapskates! They want the bling, but are too cheap to pay for it. They expect their friends to pay for their wedding! I would sever my friendship with anyone who tried this!"

Another noted: "Only 60 guests out of 350. That says a lot. I would be totally offended being asked to spend $333 per guest. If you can't afford it don't do it." But there were some commenters on the couple's side.

"That's actually quite smart. Those that mattered didn't mind paying to celebrate," said one person. Another supposed the couple saying: "Love you all have your own style."
