Tyrese Haliburton had fans lapping up his Olympic gold medal post despite barely playing for Team USA in Paris.

The Indiana Pacers guard barely played at Paris 2024 but it seemingly didn’t affect his mood after he joked about his part in the US winning their fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal. Team USA upset a raucous home crowd to beat France 98-87 in a dominant result, holding a 20-15 lead at the end of the first quarter to put them on their way.

During the celebrations after receiving their gold medals, Haliburton uploaded a post on X of him wearing the Team USA basketball jumper while holding aloft his gold medal, brilliantly captioning the post: “When you ain’t do nun on the group project and still get an A (gold medal emoji).”

The 23-year-old didn’t have the greatest impact on the team’s success, appearing in just three of the six games and totaled 26 minutes – the lowest number amongst the squad. He also averaged only 2.7 points per game with most of his minutes coming when the US held a comfortable lead.

Fans reacted to his post in the comments section, as some lauded him for being part of the team that sealed another Olympic title. “Team game,” former NBA player and podcast host Rex Chapman wrote. A second added: “True team guy. Looking forward to seeing ya in 2028”. While a third touted him for a starring role in the Los Angeles Games, saying: “It was a learning experience, you’ll be cooking in 2028”.

Other accounts joked back to Haliburton about his Olympics campaign, another quipped: “You did do something. You provided everyone with water,” with a fifth fan adding: “Bro got an all expenses paid trip to Paris to watch the Olympics and got a gold medal. W”. “Got a fan in me after tweeting this no cap,” another comment read.

Haliburton’s time to take center stage will likely come at the Los Angeles Games after he found himself behind Derrick White and Jrue Holiday in the pecking order. Steve Kerr built the core of the team around the old guard of LeBron James, 39, Stephen Curry, 36, and Kevin Durant, 35, who are all expected to be out of the Olympics frame in four years time.

Haliburton’s reaction to the US’ success is a complete contrast to the frustration surrounding Boston Celtics NBA champion Jayson Tatum, who also saw limited involvement under Kerr. After failing to come off the bench in the US’ game against Serbia this week, Tatum’s mom hit out at Kerr’s management responding to a fan questioning whether injury was behind his no show.

Tatum's mom responded: "No he not. But if you find out what’s going on please let me know – unacceptable and makes NO SENSE." She then added a follow up tweet, which read: "If Kerr is watching this and willingly deciding ‘Yeah, Jayson Tatum couldn’t help here’ then he legitimately cannot coach in 2028."
