'My future mom-in-law must change wedding outfit or not come - I told her what she should wear'

A bride-to-be may now have the confidence to tell her vindictive mother-in-law off who seemingly ignored her simple request regarding wedding dress code thanks to thousands of Redditors.

On Reddit , the soon-to-be bride has garnered a lot of support as she considers asking her future mother-in-law to change her attire or forego the wedding altogether. Since it was uploaded on August 7, the post by /u/Ldrizz15 has received 7,700 upvotes and gone viral. The poster expressed her annoyance over her future mother-in-law's decision to wear a white dress to her impending nuptials, which she felt went against a previously established boundary.

"We had multiple conversations about what kind of outfit she would end up with , and specifically spoke about how I wasn't ok with guests wearing white or ivory, as in my eyes this is something that should be reserved for the bride," the poster wrote.

The poster attempted to include her future mother-in-law in the planning of the wedding by proposing that they go clothes shopping together, but the woman turned her down and went with a friend. Nevertheless, the woman sent pictures of various possible clothes to her prospective daughter-in-law, involving her in the process. Then it got ugly.

"Yesterday evening, I checked in to see if she had been successful, and she then sent a photograph of the outfit she had bought, asking what I thought of it," the bride wrote. "It was not one of the photos she had already sent, and the dress is white." The user said that the dress's retailer, where her future in-law purchased it, was "not cheap" and did not accept returns or refunds.

Feeling helpless about how to respond to the situation without being called a "bridezilla," the poster resorted to her fiancé, who concurred that the outfit was not acceptable. The poster claimed that although he talked to his mother about the outfit, they didn't talk about it openly.

Reddit users promptly supported the bride, with many informing the original poster that it was her fiancé's obligation to handle the matter. "What your fiancé needs to do is ask to see the dress, and he tells her it's inappropriate to wear white," one person wrote. "His mom, his issue. He can be a big boy and take care of this for you."

Another commenter agreed: "She chose this dress deliberately. She knows it upsets OP because it's white and she was told 'no white or ivory.' Give her one chance to buy an appropriate dress, to be approved by son and OP. Rescind the invite if she refuses, but her son must be the one to tell her. If she rolls up to the ceremony in a white dress, she's removed from the premises."
