Olympics Closing Ceremony fans beg show to 'stop and move on' from 'confusing' karaoke segment

People at home were not impressed when they heard the Olympics Closing Ceremony announcers say there was going to be karaoke.

Confused people tuned in to the ceremony on Sunday to watch the ceremony as Queen's "We Are The Champions" began to play throughout the stadium and the athletes sang along to the well known song. Some were mic'ed up, allowing the viewers at home to hear their off-pitch singing.

People took to Twitter, now known as X, to share their thoughts on the odd sing-along in the middle of the Olympic event. "What was this whole "Karaoke session", they couldn't even mix the songs properly or make sure they merge into each other well," one fan wrote.

Another person added: "Can we stop karaoke now & move on to something else." A third added: "Athlete Karaoke? Really???"

Some people pointed out that while it was called karaoke it was more of a sing-along since the vocals of the song played. "The French appear to have confused 'karaoke' with 'just playing a song,'" someone wrote.

The Olympic Closing Ceremony kicked off on Sunday, August 11 after weeks of the best in the world competing against each other. After Paris 2024 came to a close, Team USA swimmer Katie Ledcecky became the most decorated female swimmer of all time, the fifth most decorated Olympian in history, and tied with Russian Olympian Larisa Latynina for most gold medals won by a woman.

Simone Biles became the first American woman to win two Olympic all-around and vault gold medals. The US Women's Gymnastics team made up of Simone, Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee, and Hezly Rivera won gold in the team all-around, a step up from Tokyo 2020's silver medal.

The Opening Ceremony of the Olympics took place on the Seine River as the athletes traveled down the famed waterway on boats organized by country. Lady Gaga performed as well and the ceremony ended with an emotional performance from Celine Dion atop the Eiffel Tower - her first performance in years since being diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome.

Various celebrities have made appearances at the Olympics, including Snoop Dogg and Colin Jost. The closing ceremony is set to have Tom Cruise performing stunts to signal the passing of the torch from Paris 2024 to Los Angeles 2028.
