Robin Williams ’ daughter, Zelda Williams , spent the 10th anniversary of her father's death defending him against what she said are false claims on X. Zelda reacted to a thread from a page called Timecapsule Tales, who shared a viral message about the late actor as part of "a thread of the final images of historic figures," which was shared on Sunday, Aug. 11.

"1. Robin Williams: One of the last photos of a gem of a man, with his pet monkey, taken a few days before he [took his own life] by hanging at the age of 63," the tweet read, along with a photo of the Mrs. Doubtfire with tufted capuchin monkey on his shoulder.

"It’s been brought to my attention some probably AI written BS like this is going viral. Dad didn’t own a pet monkey, NO ONE should, and if you’re ever tempted to, support your local exotic animal rescues instead," Zelda shared. "That is his Night at the Museum costar, who now lives at one."

Zelda clarified that the monkey in the photo was Crystal the Monkey, an animal actress who has appeared in countless Hollywood films over the years, including the Night at the Museum franchise, in which Robin also starred. After her initial post went viral, she gave fans a warning about believing posts they see online about her late dad, especially on the anniversary of his death.

"And since more completely false or badly researched posts are likely to go viral on Dad’s death anniversary, maybe just assume they’re all BS (they usually are)," Zelda continued. "Ignore the creepy robots trying to farm your clicks & do something nice for yourself instead. I sure as hell will."

Zelda then returned to X, to say she was stepping away from the social media platform : "Anywho, it was fun gently bonking folks again for a moment, but this app remains a robot infested, aggression and misinformation fueled dumpster fire, so I’m out again! Toodle pip and whatnot."

Aside from Zelda, the actor had two other children, Zachary and Cody. He had Cody and Zelda with his second wife, Marsha Garces Williams, while Zachary came from his first marriage to Valerie Velardi. Robin was found dead at his home in Paradise Cay, California, in August 2014, when he was 63. His death was ruled a suicide. According to his widow, Susan Schneider, Robin had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and had been experiencing depression, anxiety and increasing paranoia.
