Robin Williams' long-time industry friends paid a heartfelt tribute to the comedy legend on the 10 year anniversary of his tragic death .

August 11 2024 marks an entire decade since the beloved comedian died by suicide at the age of 63 years old. Robin's heartbreaking death came after years of struggling with depression and as he was reported to be experiencing a "recent increase in paranoia" at the time. And as fans continue to grieve the loss of the talented Hollywood star, his friends have shared some of their fondest memories of him on the anniversary of his passing.

In an interview with People magazine, producer George Schlatter spoke highly of the star and his wit and intelligence after being one of the first people to believe in him during his early days in the industry. He told the news outlet: "I had fun with Robin Williams because he intellectually was more informed, had more history, more knowledge, more vocabulary than anybody."

He continued: "A discussion with Robin was exciting because you never knew where it was gonna go because he had so much information. That brain was so full of information. He was more than a performer. He was an experience."

The 94-year-old producer was one of the first to book Williams and casted him for his show Laugh In during the series' revival on NBC back in 1977. Schlatter believed Williams' always held this incredible presence and energy no matter if he was on or off stage. He went on to add that everyone who worked with Williams was equally in "awe" of his one-of-a-kind talent.

Pauly Shore, who worked as a comedian alongside Williams at The Comedy Store, also spoke about his admiration for Williams' spectacular talent. He told People: "The guy was special. They definitely broke the mold when they made him. Just look at old footage — even anyone can testify to that he was just unique, and his improv skills mixed in with the standup was just another level."

Voice actor Scott Weinger, who worked alongside Williams' on the Disney movie Aladdin, gushed over his former co-star and the star-struck moment he met him after being a lifelong fan of his work. Weinger told People: "Just being in his presence freaked me out, and I didn't know what to expect. But he was so calm and charming and disarming."

He continued: "We were looking at the storyboards together and talking about the script and talking with our directors, and then finally when the recording studio red light turned on, some sort of magical switch got flipped and he turned into the Robin Williams that I was expecting," and added: "He was amazing. He was incredible, both sides of him — the sort of calm and soothing side, and the manic genius side."
