A chilling new map from nuclearsecrecy.com reveals the devastating impact of a nuclear bomb detonation in Los Angeles , predicting large parts of the city would be obliterated.

The map, created with insights from nuclear historian Alex Wellerstein of the Stevens Institute of Technology, illustrates the potential destruction nuclear explosions could inflict on major cities worldwide.

If a bomb as powerful as the "Castle Bravo", the most potent nuclear device ever tested by the US , were to hit Los Angeles , the fallout would be catastrophic, with a yield of 15,000 kilotons.

Wellerstein's expert simulations suggest that an alarming 2,331,190 people could lose their lives in such a disaster . Moreover, the projections estimate that an additional 4,074,420 individuals would suffer injuries, while the light blast damage, as depicted in this map , could extend as far as Santa Clarita, reports the Irish Star .

According to Wellerstein's map , light blast damage is defined as: "At around 1 psi overpressure, glass windows can be expected to break. This can cause many injuries in a surrounding population who comes to a window after seeing the flash of a nuclear explosion (which travels faster than the pressure wave). Often used as a benchmark for light damage in cities. Optimal height of burst to maximize this effect is 11,520 m."

The map shows the catastrophic damage that would occur in the immediate vicinity of the bomb . The inner yellow ring on the map indicates that anything within this radius would be vaporized.

The grey ring represents moderate blast damage, which could result in widespread destruction of facilities, universal injuries, and most buildings collapsing.
