Who is Jessica Fields? NFL star Justin's sister commits to Michigan basketball program

The Fields family is officially divided across arguably the fiercest rivalry in all of college sports.

While NFL quarterback Justin Fields once made his surname synonymous with Ohio State football after posting one of the program's greatest-ever individual seasons, his sister Jessica elected to forge her own legacy across hostile state lines with Michigan's women's basketball team.

Jessica officially revealed her commitment to coach Kim Barnes Arico and the Wolverines — as Fields would term it, The Team From Up North — on Sunday, joining McKenzie Mathurin as the second commit of the 2025 class. Fields held true to his Buckeye background, replying to her Instagram announcement with "still love ya" and an upside-down smiley emoji.

"I think they were actually one of the last schools to actually give me an offer, but I knew what they had to offer academically and their program has been pretty good," Jessica told On3 about her commitment. "The girls were super nice and we had a little game night, so I got a good feel of the team dynamics and the culture.

"I was ready to wrap up my recruitment process. I started very early in eighth grade, so it’s been a very long process. I got to see both of my siblings go through it, so I always looked forward to when coaches would finally focus on me in visits instead of being the little sibling running around."

The Fields siblings both grew up in the Atlanta suburb of Kennesaw, with the elder football rising star soaring up the recruiting rankings and eventually landing as the consensus No. 2 prospect in all of America. Fields initially committed to in-state powerhouse Georgia but quickly transferred to Ohio State and enjoyed a stunning sophomore season, totaling over 3,200 yards and 41 touchdowns against just three interceptions.

Jessica hasn't quite earned her brother's elite recruiting billing, currently unranked by all national services. However, 247Sports contributor noted that she received a 91 rating, equivalent to a four-star grade in their database, and received five total power conference offers.

The rising senior stands at 6'1, just a couple of inches shorter than her brother, and excels as a versatile front-court player, considered among the best rebounders in the 2025 class. Evidently motivated by academics, Jessica selected Barnes Arico's Wolverines over Georgetown and Northwestern, also citing player development, interest from the coaching staff and team culture as key factors in her recruitment.

“At the end of the day, I just try to keep in mind that I’m going to be with these girls every day for the next four years, so I definitely want to be somewhere I feel comfortable and like they’re my second family,” Jessica said.

After inheriting a historically mediocre women's basketball program, Barnes Arico has transformed Michigan into one of the Big Ten's more consistent programs in recent years. The Wolverines advanced past the opening weekend of March Madness for the first time ever in 2021 and have qualified for six consecutive NCAA Tournaments.
