Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, after their dramatic exit from Royal duties and relocation to the United States, quickly assembled a new team of staff. However, as time has passed, the couple has developed a reputation for not being able to retain employees as they continue their charitable and production endeavors outside the Royal Family.

Harry's chief of staff has resigned from his position in August after only three months, bringing the total to 18.

Josh Kettler, a top-tier PR executive, assumed the senior role with Harry in May before the Sussexes' tour to Nigeria. His departure comes as Harry and Meghan gear up for their work trip to Colombia this week, reports the Mirror .

It is believed that Mr. Kettler was hired on a trial basis and the decision to separate was mutual, with both parties agreeing it was not the right fit. But he's not the only Harry and Meghan staff member to depart in recent years....

    Royal Exodus

Following Harry and Meghan's wedding in May 2018, the couple, who were still active royals at this point, experienced a series of staff changes with several resignations. Among those who left were senior communications secretary Katrina McKeever, Meghan's personal assistant Melissa Toubati, a female Royal protection officer, and their assistant private secretary Amy Pickerill.

Melissa Toubati, who mysteriously resigned after only six months of working with the Duchess of Sussex, was under a lot of pressure. A source revealed: "Her job was highly pressurised and in the end it became too much. She put up with quite a lot. Meghan put a lot of demands on her and it ended up with her in tears."

"She is hugely talented and played a pivotal role in the success of the royal wedding. She'll be missed by everyone in the household. Melissa is a total professional and fantastic at her job, but things came to a head and it was easier for them both to go their separate ways."

In October 2019, Samantha Cohen, their private secretary who had previously worked for the late Queen, also left. Valentine Low, former Times Royal correspondent, claimed in his book, Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown, that a frustrated Ms Cohen compared the job to "working with teenagers".

In his book, Low detailed how Ms Cohen organized the couple's first official tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga, and New Zealand, but alleged she ended up being "screamed at". "Sam always made clear that it was like working for a couple of teenagers," Low quoted a source as saying.

"They (Meghan and Prince Harry) were impossible and pushed her to the limit. She was miserable."

Ms Cohen, who departed shortly after, told Australia's Herald Sun that she had only agreed to a brief secondment but found herself unable to leave as the palace struggled to find a willing replacement. She stated: "I was only supposed to stay for six months but stayed for 18 - we couldn't find a replacement for me and when we did we took them on tour to Africa with Harry and Meghan to show them the ropes but they left (quit) as well while in Africa."

In the meantime, following their departure from Royal duties, their director of communications, Sara Latham, also severed ties with them.

    Archewell

Upon leaving the UK for the USA, Harry and Meghan promptly established their charity organization, Archewell, making several significant appointments including Catherine St Laurent as chief of staff.

However, she only served 11 months in the role before moving on. In an interview with The Cut, she described her time working for Harry and Meghan as "an incredible experience".

She further added: "They are incredibly talented and creative leaders. I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to do that, to be able to be with them on their journey. The time that I spent with them was incredibly fulfilling."

Just a few months later, the couple's global press secretary, Toya Holness, also exited Archewell after only a year in the role. She had been responsible for managing the Sussexes' PR on both sides of the Atlantic.

Insiders at the time alleged she "wanted out" after finding herself "having to fulfil a great many functions for the couple".

    Production staff

In December 2022, just days before the controversial documentary about Harry and Meghan was released on Netflix, Mandana Dayani, then president of Archewell, left her position after only 18 months. At that time, it was understood that Harry and Meghan would assume full leadership of the organization, and a statement from Archewell emphasized that there had been no falling out.

In addition, Fara Taylor, who was responsible for marketing at Archewell, also departed the organization last year as Harry and Meghan aimed to 'streamline' their staff.

However, the couple's charitable arm isn't the only place where they've experienced staff turnover. Their production company has also seen a high rate of departures.

The couple established this branch following their multi-million dollar deals with Netflix and Spotify.

But in December 2022, Rebecca Sananes, the head of Archewell Audio, resigned after being hired to work on Meghan 's Archetypes podcast. The podcast ran for one season on Spotify before the Sussexes' deal with the streaming giant was terminated.

Last year, Nishika Kumble, who was the senior vice-president of scripted television at Archewell, left after less than two years. She was closely followed by TV executive Bennett Levine, whose departure was described as a "serious blow", after he moved to a rival organization.

Also departing was Oscar-winning producer Ben Browning, who worked on the Netflix docu-series Harry and Meghan , and had been their head of internal content.
