Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has praised Stetson Bennett's resolve after throwing four interceptions against the Dallas Cowboys in his first game after missing a year following his rookie year absence.

Former Georgia and two-time national championship winner Bennett did not do himself many favors in competing for the back-up spot with Jimmy Garoppolo after throwing four picks in the game, but showed his resilience late on by going on to throw the winning touchdown to defeat the Cowboys.

Bennett did not play in his rookie season with the Rams after being placed on the reserve/non-football illness list, but is now back with the team and hoping to secure his future with the organization. After his performance on Sunday, his head coach made it clear he sees plenty of qualities in the quarterback.

McVay said: "The first two [interceptions] were tough because those are kind of occupational hazards. He will be able to learn from them.

"The second two, we have to be able to make better decisions. He is a resilient guy. All of them are ones that he can learn from, and I thought he did a really good job of being able to keep us ahead of the sticks and really moving us down the field. We obviously kind of petered out in the red zone, but I thought he did a great job getting us in and out of the huddle."

Bennett knows he'll need to improve in the next two weeks, with the Rams likely to need him to begin the season with Garoppolo suspended for the first two games of the year.

"That was probably the weirdest game that I've been a part of," Bennett told The Associated Press after the game. "But I told myself today we're gonna roll with the punches.

"My goal was to not make any mental errors. It was basically to run the offense correctly. There were some lapses, obviously, but in the end it was get the ball in the end zone or you lose, and I think everybody fought to do it."

Prior to his rookie season beginning, Bennett left the Rams and was placed on the placed on the reserve/non-football illness list, admitting that he had mental health struggles prior to the 2023 campaign beginning. On his return, he told reporters: "Thank goodness that [general manager] Les Snead and Coach McVay and everybody involved allowed me to do that."
